Jovanna E. Freeman, Victims' Advocate

Jovanna was born and spent most of her youth in Phoenix Arizona. She and her family relocated to Oregon in mid 2006. Soon after arriving in Oregon they decided to settle in Saint Helens. They fell in love with the small town feel Saint Helens offers and the accessibility to Portland.

Having a close nit family is something Jovanna strives for. Her family consists of two daughters, a husband, and the family dog Kerouac and family cat Sadie. Jovanna enjoys reading, true crime novels are her favorite, but she also enjoys most nonfiction. Family games are something she does for fun; Scrabble and Scategories are among her top favorites. Since moving to Oregon she tries to get outside to explore as much as possible; hiking, going to the beach and visiting other towns.

While living in Arizona Jovanna worked for many years in Child Support Enforcement. This was a career she had enjoyed immensely and was sad to leave. Once settled in Saint Helens she had to decide whether to continue a career in child support or venture off into a new career field.  After spending some time in Saint Helens getting to know her way around and researching the community a little she decided she wanted to serve the community she lived in. At that point she set out on a journey of exploration and learning, gathering as much information as she could. This journey led her begin a new and exciting career with The Women’s Resource Center in February 2008.

Claire Shepherd, Sexual Assault Prevention Program Coordinator

Throughout my life I have had the opportunity to learn about Sexual Violence and it's impact on women, children, families and the community as a whole. In turn, I have shared information with others and actively played a role in educating and raising awareness about violence against women. Growing up in my home, violence against women and the movement to end it, was not simply something I heard about or read in books it was a culture in which I was raised. I never failed to take part in the feminist movement and I actively participated in raising awareness.

I love to spend time with my family and animals. I enjoy scuba diving with my husband and watching my children playing sports. I love to make jewelry and mosaic tiling.

I am grateful to have the opportunity to work in my community to educate, provide advocacy and raise awareness about sexual assault and domestic violence. If you ever need someone to talk to about these issues, I am here for my community whether you are a man or a woman.

Karin Kaczmarek, Program Coordinator

Ever since childhood, I have railed against the unfair treatment of girls and women. I feel strongly that women should be treated as equals by every facet of our society and hope to see the day when that finally becomes a reality. My husband and I raised our two daughters by encouraging and empowering them to be all that they can be - that they have the right to be treated fairly and with respect.

A transplant from Europe to the Midwest and then to the Great Northwest in 1990, I joined WRC in 1994 as a co-director. My business background complimented the skills of the other three co-directors in the team. When this team management style went back to the more traditional executive directorship, I became the program coordinator.

My hobbies include bicycle riding. (My favorite toy at present in my recumbent bike.) I also enjoy hiking, roller blading, gardening and reading.
