Executive Director

Columbia County Women’s Resource Center

The Columbia County Women’s Resource Center (CCWRC) is a nonprofit organization devoted to eliminating family violence and strengthening families and communities for almost 30 years. It provides the only domestic violence and sexual assault shelter in the county. The 26-bed shelter is a sanctuary for survivors and works to instill a sense of hope for the future into the clients served. CCWRC also offers advocacy and programs for clients to develop the knowledge and skills necessary to live a safe, healthy and productive life. In addition to the programs and services at the shelter, CCWRC manages a resale store in St. Helens that is an important source of funding for the resource center. CCWRC now seeks candidates for a dynamic Executive Director to lead the organization into its next phase of growth and development. 

The Executive Director position is a strategic role requiring concentration on fund-raising, planning for the future and delivery of quality services. The primary responsibility is fund-development and public relations which includes an annual major fundraising activity, grant writing and working with donors and funders. Other major responsibilities are strategic planning, internal operations, including oversight of programs and the resale store, the shelter facilities, human resources, risk management, IT, internal communications and administration and preparation and monitoring of  an annual budget of $500,000. The Executive Director works with eight employees and reports to a pro-active working Board of Directors.

 

 Key responsibilities include the following:

1.   Fund-Development: CCWRC needs to establish and grow its base of financial support from local donors, corporations and foundations. The Executive Director is the leader in building relationships with funders and will provide direction and hands-on involvement for fund-development efforts.


2.   Public Relations: The Executive Director is the primary spokesperson and will represent CCWRC with passion touching many, varied stakeholder groups. These include funders, volunteers, community partners and the community at large.  


3.   Operations:  Ensure effective delivery of all programs and services. Work to continuously evaluate all program functions for effectiveness and relevance to CCWRC’s mission and the community served. Ensure teamwork among the staff by creating an environment that encourages and promotes open communication, accountability and clarity of direction. Recruit, hire and develop a highly functioning team. 

4.   Strategy/Planning:  Work with the Board of Directors and key staff in the development of strategic and operational plans. The Executive Director provides leadership in structuring the planning process, developing strategic direction and ensuring needed financial support. 

5.   Board Relations:  Work closely with the Board of Directors in developing policies and strategies for operating the organization. Provide regular communication to the board regarding operational results and effectiveness.


REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

1.   Education/Knowledge:  Candidates should have a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field. Additional training in management of non-profit organizations is preferred. Candidates must be prepared to do fund development, grant writing, budgeting, program management and strategic planning.


2.   Experience:  Candidates should have demonstrated success in fundraising, including individual donor solicitation, event planning and grant writing. Proven abilities in planning, team building and leadership development are preferred. Candidates will be assessed both for the type of experience they offer and their demonstrated success in previous roles. Prior service on non-profit boards of directors will be viewed favorably. Candidates should have records of success in representing their organizations publicly. Professionalism, enthusiasm and passion for their work are vital.


3.   Other Preferences:

a.   Strong appetite for networking and representing CCWRC publicly, including public speaking and face to face donor solicitation. 

b.   Impeccable character and ethics, and a record that substantiates them. The Executive Director must be a person of the highest quality with no history of questionable behavior or performance.

c.   Excellence in verbal and written communication skills.

d.   Past success in leading and empowering staff and Board with demonstrated success in creating a high performing organization.

e.   Demonstrated abilities to build a high performing, professional team.

f.     Genuine interest in the development and well-being of families served by CCWRC. This is an enterprise of passion and commitment, and our leader must take great satisfaction from ensuring the well-being of families in crisis.

g.   Energy combined with flexibility and a willingness to consider, embrace and initiate change.

h.   Interest in fun and a sense of humor.


Volunteer Your Time 

Volunteers make a world of difference! The Columbia County Women's Resource Center is always looking for volunteers to help with all the projects we have in progress. Please consider spending a little time with us this year. Join our staff and volunteers in helping Columbia County end domestic violence and sexual assault. The following are samples of the volunteer opportunities currently available: 

** CCWRC is seeking volunteers to serve on the Board of Directors. The Board is looking for members with financial experience, fundraising experience or experience with nonprofit boards. * Community Education/Outreach: Working with volunteers and staff to educate our community partners and students in the Columbia County area. 

* Support Group Co-Facilitator: Working with our trained staff to facilitate support groups such as domestic violence and AMAC.

 * Front Desk Worker: Answering phones, filing, taking messages, and various other office tasks.

 *Children's Activities Assistant:  Planning and implementing activities and projects for the children in shelter.

*Child Care Provider:  Provide child care for the mothers in shelter during support groups and classes.  

 *Yard/Maintenance Worker:  Providing on-going assistance with yard work, repairs in the office, store and shelter.
